Rinse before you swim
Hair soaked in clean water first has less room to absorb salt or chlorine. It is the single most effective thing you can do, and it takes thirty seconds.
Sarasota · aftercare
Florida is harder on hair than almost anywhere. Here is what actually matters for extensions here — and one reason the method you choose matters more in this climate.
Humidity
Humidity swells the hair shaft and lifts the cuticle. That is what frizz is, and it is why a style that behaves in a dry climate can misbehave the moment you step outside here.
It also matters for the attachment. Adhesive and keratin bonds are materials with a working temperature range — heat and moisture are exactly the conditions that test them. A nano bead has nothing to soften. It is a metal ring holding hair mechanically, and a July afternoon means nothing to it.
What still needs managing is the hair itself: a leave-in with real slip, drying the root area properly rather than leaving it damp under the length, and a smoothing product that respects the bonds rather than gumming them up.
Beach and pool
Hair soaked in clean water first has less room to absorb salt or chlorine. It is the single most effective thing you can do, and it takes thirty seconds.
A loose braid keeps the length from tangling around itself in surf. Rinse thoroughly afterwards — salt does not simply evaporate off, it stays on the shaft and keeps working at it, and chlorine is worse for colour.
Bonds left damp under heavy wet hair are the most common cause of matting we see in coastal clients. Dry the root area before you leave it up.
Sun and colour
Extension hair does not repair itself and it does not regrow. UV lifts colour out of it faster than it does from your own hair, and the tone that goes first is usually the one that took the longest to match.
A hat, a UV-protectant spray, or simply keeping the length off your shoulders on the worst afternoons will do more for the lifespan of your hair than any product you can buy afterwards.
The rest of it
Sulphate-free wash, conditioner from the mid-length down, a proper detangling brush used from the ends upward, and no sleeping on it wet. The full routine, the FAQ and the mistakes we see most often are on the aftercare page.
And the six-to-eight week maintenance cycle does not stretch just because it is summer. If anything, the season you swim most is the season it matters most.
Book a consultation at the Sarasota studio and we will build the routine around how you actually live here.
